Sovereign: (noun) A supreme ruler (adjective) Possessing supreme or ultimate power
Starting off today, let’s ask ourselves a question. When everything is going great, what is the first thing we do? Sometimes we thank God, praise Him for what He’s doing. But when things are going rocky and nothing seems to be going right, what’s the first thing we go? Maybe we become mad at God, maybe we question Him. But you know as well as I do, this should not be. When things are going great, it’s easy to say God is sovereign, but when things are going rough, can we still say God is sovereign?
God has a reason for allowing everything into your life. James 1:2-3 says, consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Sometimes God needs to teach us a lesson that can only come through trials. He knows us better then we know ourselves-He created us! Jeremiah 1:5 says, before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. Before the world even existed, God knew what you’re going through right now! He is already on the other side of what you’re going through, but He is walking with you through it. Invite Him to hold your hand and walk with you in this time of trial.
My point today I want to make is that God is sovereign. The world “reign” is in the word “sovereign.” Whatever you’re going through right now, you can say “God, I trust You.” I’ll close today with a prayer that you can pray, and then expand on if you wish. “Father God, You know what I’m going through right now. I can’t do this alone, and I’m so thankful that I don’t have to. Come into my life and walk with me in this trial. Be with me and help me to trust in Your sovereignty and timing. You are faithful, and I trust You, God. Teach me the lesson You want to teach me through this. You are sovereign. Thank You for sending Jesus to die for me, and thank You that He has won every battle for me, and thank You that I don’t have to walk alone. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.”
