Here’s an interesting fact: the Bible talks about fear more then most things in the Bible. You might justify in saying God needed to get a point across about fear, but He also needed to get the creation story across to people and that isn’t talked about in the Book nearly as much as fear is. So why does God talk about fear so much? Actually, He commands that we should not fear (Joshua 1:9). You might say that’s a little off the wall and fear is normal. To an extent I suppose that could be true. But as a Christian, we literally have nothing to fear.
To be honest, lately I have been having anxiety problems. God is teaching me about trusting Him in every situation. I know I have nothing to fear, but am I really living that way? God is bigger then every situation. To be honest, every situation has to go through Him before it touches us. He won’t give us more then we can handle. We think that we know our limits to testing, but God knows them better then I do or you do, because He created us. And if we “fall through the cracks” and get afraid, God won’t be mad at us and leave us. He will never let go. Isaiah 43:2 says, “when you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” (NIV) What a promise! God also goes ahead of us in our life, so He knows what exactly lays before you and what you need. Deuteronomy 31:8 says, “the LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." Why would God Almighty Himself take the time to do this? God goes on to say in Isaiah 43:4, “since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you.” You are precious and loved in the Creator of the universe’s eyes! Have you looked up the word precious lately? Webster defines it as “greatly cherished” and “of great value.” Let that sink in for a moment, and then move on.
To decrease anxiety, read God’s word and study it. See how God has delivered everyone from his or her worst nightmares. Become familiar with His promises so that you can recite them when you need to, and remember that His promises are the same yesterday, today and forever.
I stated earlier that, as Christians, we have literally nothing to be afraid of. Here are some common fears and why there is no need to fear them:
*Death: Many people fear death, but we don’t need to fear it because we know that if we have put our faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, we are going to Heaven to be with Him forever, that is something to look forward to!
*Close Spaces/Being Stuck: I fear this one to be honest, but we don’t need to. Wherever we are, so is God, and wherever God is, there is nothing to fear. He is in the smallest places whispering to us that He loves us, holding us in His arms. Psalm 46:10 says “Be still and know that I Am God.” (That’s one of my favorite promises when I’m scared.)
*Being in front of people: Many people are scared of this because it’s “what if I mess up or do something wrong?” Well, we know that God accepts us just the way we are and that His love for us will never change, it will never fail.
Just know that every circumstance you are in is passed through God first. Hold on to Him when you start to fear, and remember that you can do anything through Christ that gives you strength (Phillipians 4:13). He is already on the other side of this battle, but He's also walking right beside you. What a God we serve!
