There comes a time in everyone’s life when they have an important decision to make, they must choose who they are going to follow, who is going to be there master.
We have a choice before us tonight at this pivotal moment in our lives. We can choose to follow the world, or we can choose to follow God.
In the Scripture that was just read, Isaiah was responding to the Lord after the Lord revealed Himself to Isaiah. He saw the Lord sitting on His throne, he saw the angels worshiping God. It was such a powerful vision that Isaiah says in verse 5, ““It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.” (NLT)
This passage prompts me to think about a time when the Lord revealed Himself to me. I didn’t see God sitting on His throne, or His angels worshiping Him, but He revealed Himself to me in my weakness. In eighth grade, I dislocated my kneecap. It lead to two surgeries, the second was a major reconstructive surgery. After the second surgery, I had spent close to six months in a full knee brace, and I was in physical therapy for eight months. I had problems regaining my muscle in my leg, and to this day, I still don’t have all of my strength back.
During this period of my life, I started talking to God more, and getting to know Him more, and I knew during that period of my life that I had to give my everything to God, because through that experience, He showed me that He was alone worthy of my praise.
When you experience God in a powerful way, such as Isaiah did, or such as I did, and maybe such as you have, you realize that, in the presence of a holy God, we are so sinful. But the great thing here, is that even though Isaiah, and myself, and any of you, are so sinful, the Lord has still chosen us to be His children, and to do His work.
The follow verses explain that an angel came over to Isaiah and put burning coal on his lips, and this forgave Isaiah all his sin. This is like what happened years after Isiah had this vision when Jesus came and died for the sins of the world, and when we acknowledge that we are sinners, Jesus comes and forgives our sins.
Immediately following this, the Lord speaks, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?” In today’s terms, this is like God saying “I have a message I want to convey to the people on the earth, I need someone to go and tell them! Who will go for me?” And Isaiah replies “Here I am, send me.” Five words. That’s it. Isaiah gave His life to God. Today, we are faced with the same question. God is looking for people to go out into our schools, into our colleges, into our work places to tell people the life-changing message of Jesus Christ. Everybody you meet has a destiny. When they die, they are either going to heaven or hell. If they know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, they’re going to heaven, if not, they’re going to hell. That’s the black and white truth. Our job, as Christians, is to wake up and realize that God needs people to tell others the message. We can’t be on the fence about Jesus. We are either all in, or not in at all. He is looking for someone to go. He is looking for someone to step up to the plate and say “Lord, this life is not my own, everything I am is because of you. Here I am, send me.”
The only reason God didn’t take us home to heaven the moment we accepted Christ as our Savior is because He is not finished with us yet, He needs to use us to let other people know that Jesus is real, and that everyone living on this earth needs Him.
The Lord is knocking on the door of your hearts. He is searching for someone to go. Will it be you?
