Hey all! My word, I haven't blogged in months, sorry about that! So I want to jump right in today. I was on worship team at my chruch about three weeks ago and we were singing Chris Tomlin's "Lay me Down" and as I was singing the bridge over and over again, I really started to think about the words. "It will be my joy to say Your will Your Way." I want to break this down into three parts.
- "It will be my joy to say"... this means that we need to be happy, we need to be content, we need to be thrilled about surrendering to God and His plan in our life. From a human standpoint, this might be darn near crazy! How can we be so happy and joyful about submiting to someone else's will for our life? Well look at what happened when Abraham trusted God joyfully, God gave him the promised land and made his desendents God's people for eternity! Look what happened when Noah joyfully worked at his ark for years! People made fun of him yes, but one day when the flood did come, his family was spared. These are just two of hundreds of examples of when people wholly submitted to God. We should too. But you say how? Sure surrender is hard, personally I think it's one of the hardest things about being a Christian. But when we pray, and when we read the Bible, we see that if we indeed do let go and let God, He has more for us then we could ever think of! (Jer. 29:11, Eph. 3:20-21).
- "Your will"... so this is the idea that we submit to what God wants done, not us. This can be hard when pride and control gets in the way. We as humans, think that we can do things better then the God of the universe. (I know, it sounds silly when you put it like that, but really that's what we're saying). So when we figure out that before the world was even spoke into motion, God had our lives planned out for us, and what He wants for us is good (Jer. 29:11), we really should have no problem saying, "God I'm yours." But I understand as well as you do that life comes and it isn't that simple. We think that when hardship comes God forgot about us, but He said never will I leave nor forsake you! (Deut. 30:6, Heb. 13:5). And then we think that God can't use us for His Kingdom, just like Moses thought. But God used him in huge ways! (Ex. 4:10-13). We think that we know best because we live on earth and know the way the world works, so we know better then God, again the Creator of this earth. He knows what we're going through because He's been there! (Heb. 4:15). We have no reason to hold onto our life when God can use it for so much more when we let Him have it and do His will with our lives!
- "Your Way"... I'm not God so I can't say that I know how and why He does everything, but I know if we give Him our struggles and dreams, in His timing, in His way, it will happen, again if it's His will. It may not happen how we expect it to or how soon we get it, but it will happen perfectly because the One who knows the stars by name is the one in charge of your life! As always, thanks for reading!
