Often times as Christians we hear people’s “testimonies”. These often refer to the stories of how one has come to Christ and accepted Him as their Savior. We all have a testimony, because we all were once in darkness, lost in our sin and shame, and are now we’ve been forgiven and set free.
The worship team at our church did a song not too long ago that I found catchy and fun. When I went home and looked it up, I realized that I liked it even more! One line in particular caught my attention. It says:
“Look how He lifted me, His grace and mercy is my testimony”
How great is that? We were lost is our sin and shame, on the road to destruction and hell, and then Jesus came with His mercy and grace and changed our lives. This isn’t because of anything we’ve done, but because of everything He’s done.
1 John 4:19 says, “We love because He first loved us.” God loved us in our sin and dirtiness, a state that left us completely separated from God. He loved us when there was a chance that we would never love Him back. He sent His own Son to die on the cross so that His love would be displayed, that His wrath for sin would be poured out on His son, and His mercy would be poured out on us.
Jesus took the wrath for us. He took the punishment that I deserved for my sin and set me free. Free to love God and to one day stand faultless in His presence.
God’s grace is one of the most powerful things in life when you see it in its barest form. He gave us something that we didn’t deserve—forgiveness—because of His love for us. He cast aside our sins when we asked for His redemption. The price has been paid by Jesus, and now my life is hidden with Christ (Colossians 3:3). On the cross, Jesus took on every single thing that I have ever done or will do so that I can be made new, and He did the same for you. If we believe it, let’s let our lives reflect it. Let others know what He’s done.
I may not be perfect, but I’m not who I once was, because Jesus Christ has changed me by His grace and His mercy. This is my testimony.
